Spiritual Direction

Our world needs spiritual leaders who connect spirituality and ecology. That integration begins with our own experience of the Divine, the earth, and our selves.

Are you a clergy person or faith leader seeking a deeper integration of your spiritual life and the natural world? Are you wondering how to stay grounded as you lead others? Maybe you have a contemplative practice and feel called toward the next stage of that journey? Do you find yourself at a crossroad and want a companion in discernment?

Spiritual direction is an ancient practice found across religious traditions.  It is an ongoing, one on one conversation with someone who listens deeply to your life and your experience of the Divine. We will explore how God is inviting you toward more freedom in all areas of your life, and ponder the relationship between your well-being and the communities and natural places of which you are a part. Through the interplay of silence, evocative questions, and contemplative presence, we will discover how God might be moving in, through, and around you.

I welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, and ages into the spiritual direction conversation—bring all of who you are, your faith, your doubts, your identity, your history, your gender, your sexuality. All of you is welcome in this space and in this work.

We start the process with an initial conversation, talking about what draws us to this work and exploring the possible dynamics. From that opening conversation we each decide if we feel called to move forward together. Typically, we would meet monthly, either online or in person.

As a general guideline, the fee for spiritual direction is $90 a session. People who can pay more are invited to do so to offset the cost for people who cannot. If you find the guideline a challenge, let’s talk and find a way to address that. Please know that the fees are applied toward my own ongoing education, supervision, and professional development so that I might offer accountable and qualified spiritual direction to my clients.

A brief introduction...
I have been an Episcopal priest for over twenty-five years serving in parishes and as a university chaplain. My spiritual path has been significantly formed by Benedictine monastic spirituality with its emphases on inner transformation, developing a relationship with a local landscape, and moving towards freedom within community. My spiritual life and community ethos have been equally shaped by feminist thought and practice. I am actively involved in my community as a leader for the conservation of water and soil.
In 2024 I completed a two-year Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction, with a focus on contemplative ecology, from St. John’s School of Theology & Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota—a school embedded in Benedictine community and practices. By way of accountability and professional development, I have a spiritual director with whom I meet regularly. I am also part of a professional community of spiritual directors and I participate in a supervision process with a trained director. I am canonically resident in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and licensed in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, and I am up to date on all safe practice and misconduct prevention trainings and certifications.
